Analysing and Evaluating Financial Management - Free Essay Example

Analysing and Evaluating Financial Management Effective financial management is essential to the success of a business or organisation. This essay will analyse and evaluate the importance of financial management to a business and the main factors which would influence the ability of the organisation to achieve its financial objectives of liquidity, growth and profitability. Some of the main reasons for failure in the area of financial management is: lack of capital, too many long term assets, lack of control over credit (letting customers accumulate too much credit) or inventories, poor cash flow, and having too high of costs. Especially for a small business, financial management is extremely important as if you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t keep an eye on it regularly a business can very quickly go under. Good accounting processes and sound financial management are one of the best ways that a business or organisation can make sure that they remain profitable and solvent. The foun dation of many successful business operations is how you manage the finances of your business, its cash flow and profitability. (Effecta, Advanced Business Coaching, Accountancy SME Consulting Company, 2010) The objective of a business relates to the goals that an organisation sets out to achieve within a timeframe. For a business to successfully achieve these goals or objectives, they often create business plans that assist them in making sure that their objectives are achievable, as well as assisting them to actually achieve them. (Businesscasestudies.co.uk, n.d.) A business plan is a management tool. The plan makes benchmarks and indicators of which the progress of the business can then be assessed. The business plan shows what the business is capable of and fosters employee commitment to the business, focuses the employees concentration on the goals and objectives of the business and encourage forward thinking in regards to those goals and objectives, as well as the well-bei ng of the business. Another important aspect of a business plan is the break-even analysis. This is an essential step that will tell the owner if the business will make money during a specified period by showing the break-even point. The break-even point is where the business has the same amount of revenue as they do expenses. This means that the business is neither disadvantaged or advantaged. Financial management includes the acquisition and use of finance, planning, organisation and controlling. Acquisition of finance refers to getting finance. This part of financial management asks many important questions about a businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ finances, including what type of finance and where do we get it? As well as how is it invested? You must acquire an asset which will yield the required return. To answer the aforementioned question of where do we get finance? A business must look at all of their options in order to make the best decision for the business. Most people wo uld immediately think of a bank in regards to acquiring finance, but this isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the only way. There are many different ways to acquire finance, including a fast growing method called crowd sourcing through websites like KickStarter. This is when a business puts up an idea online and other people finance it through putting their own money into it in order to get something in return. This could be simply one of the products thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being made, or even a share in part of the business. Planning of a business refers to the extremely important aspect of setting objectives (both long term and short-term) and looking at the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"big pictureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. General objectives of a business change and grow as the business progresses. Often, the general objectives of a business revolve around the liquidity of a business (the cash flow to pay to suppliers and employees), the profitability of the business (having more revenue coming into the busin ess than expenses coming out), risk minimization (making sure that the business has insurance in place as well as other risk management practices including training and maintenance) and growth (growing and expanding opportunities for the business). The organisation of finance refers to the recording of a businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ finances. This can mean having in place a financial system to carry out a plan and assist people in enacting the plan, as well as having an accounting system in place for the business. Controlling finance refers to looking at the information you have on your own finances and being able to tell whether or not youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re on the right track with your finances. The aim for most businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ revolve and profitability and growth. Put simply, the profitability of a business is the difference between the revenue and the expenses. This means that a business makes sufficient revenue over expenses to make the risks of running the busi ness worthwhile to all of the people involved. Ratios in business, particularly financial management are used to assess a businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ financial health. In order to measure the profitability of a business and therefore analyse how a business is progressed, you can use the Gross Profit Ratio. This tells how much money is left over to cover other expenses and still make profit, and is an indication of how effectively the business is using the revenue. This ration also compares gross profit with sales revenue. There are a few reasons of which state why the Gross Profit Ratio can vary. This can be the changes in the costs of raw materials, as well as the changes in the sale prices (specifically what the business sells their goods for). This would affect the Gross Profit Ratio and therefore the profitability of the business. If there is a change in the relationship between the Gross Profit Ratio and the sales revenue there are also a few things of which can be done ab out it. This includes: finding cheaper solutions to either the way a business is run or the products which are sold in the business, buying goods in bulk and then storing them which therefore means that the business is saving money on their inventories, using alternative warehousing and holding less stock onsite, buying goods locally rather than importing them from places which are further away. It is important for a business to remember that if they have more stock than they need, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s costing them money. Another way of measuring profitability is with the Net Profit Ratio. This ratio relates to how much of the sales revenue is left as profit after all the expenses are taken into consideration. A businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Net Profit Ratio can be improved by decreasing expenses as a percentage of sales and making sure that the business doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hold stock for a long time if they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t need to. For some businesses though, the holdi ng of stock can be defining factor. This is especially in the case of a restaurant named Bcoz that is located in Melbourne. This business holds large amounts of wine for a long period of time because it is a defining factor for their business that people can come into the restaurant and get the specific wine that they want. As the profitability on a small business isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t as high as it is in a large business, it is extremely important that the owners or managers of a small business keep an eye on the growth of expense over time, as well as the proportion of sales revenue a business is using. As aforementioned in this essay, one of a businessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ main financial objectives relates to liquidity. Liquidity is defined as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“cash, or the fact of having cash or assets which can be changed into cash easily.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ (Search.credoreference.com, 2014) This means having the sufficient cash resources to allow a business to meet the day to da y running costs of the business. Liquidity can be measured in several ways, one of which includes the use of a cash flow budget. A cash flow budget records all expected cash inflows and outflows and can be calculated by ratios and information found on the balance sheet. INSERT BALANCE SHEET NONSENSE In order to effectively use financial management and therefore effectively manage a business it is important to seek out external advice to find out whether the business could save money or protect themselves from factors both externally and internally. This means speaking to not only a lawyers and accountants, but also tax specialists, business and financial consultants, government agencies, and business organisations. Another aspect that refers to managing the business both internally and externally is the SWOT analysis. This refers to the process of analysing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Internally the business can manage the strengths and weaknesses thr ough financial management processes and externally the business can attempt to manage the threats and opportunities for the business. Internal and external finance can also be related to debt and equity finance. Within a business there are two main types of finance, equity and debt. Equity finance is internal and refers to the finance from owner/s (shareholders etc.) who will want a high rate of return in order to keep financing the business. Debt finance is external and is a liability to the business. This finance is what is obtained from banks and other sources of the like. These two types of finance are also highly reliant on interest, particularly debt finance as when borrowing money from a bank you are required to pay back that money, as well as the interest. The amount of interest that must be paid is determined by interest rates. These rates differ for almost every single business. Interest rates work in two ways à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" borrowing and saving money. Banks charge more interest for borrowing money and give marginally less for saving money in a bank account. As well as equity and debt finance, there is also short and long term finance. Short term finance is generally defined as the purchasing of short term assets. And although these types of finance donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have any clear-cut time limits, these are current assets that can generally be converted into cash within a year. Long term finance is generally defined as the purchase of long term (or non-current) assets. These are assets that are not able to be converted into money quickly. What Are Sexist Culture Is Perceived As Normal And Why It...

All aspects of visual culture can be looked from a variety of perspectives. One view I often tend to look at first is through the feminist lenses; is what I’m looking at showing equality of the sexes? Why or why not? A lot of times, what we’re looking at can be sexist without even realizing it, mostly because it’s seen as fitting with the relative culture. I found that one of my most favorite television shows is full of sexism and stereotypes. So why is it still my favorite show? I don’t condone any type of sexism, at all. In this paper, I will discuss why sexist culture is perceived as normal and why it keeps happening. The baggage I came into this class had a lot to do with stereotypes surrounding women. Women are often given some sort of stereotype in the role they play in a TV show. This could have to do with their personality, job, or love life. Women are given an identity to verify a preexisting notion, this helps create the character’s traits . Too often, women’s personality traits require them to be limited. As an example, if the setting is a workplace, you normally see a man as who’s in charge, not a woman. This may not seem like a huge deal, considering its just fiction, but the impacts of reoccurring sexism can be detrimental. Not only is it reinforcing the idea that women are inadequate, but it also tells men they must get the most superior position. The â€Å"glass ceiling† is a concept that explains these limiting behaviors in society. It basically is the idea thatShow MoreRelatedEvil Disney, Research Response to Henry Giroux5383 Words   |  22 Pagesthe Disney corporation’s sociological and socio political ideologies are embedded into their products and how they affect children, but very few ask why Disney would place hidden ideologies in their movies/shows. Research Paper on Taj Mahal Essay Example

Research Paper on Taj Mahal Essay Taj Mahal is one the greatest piece of architecture of India and the whole world. This mosque-mausoleum was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved resting wife Mumtaz, who died in childbirth. The Taj Mahal is a complex of buildings, consisting of a mausoleum, mosque, guest house, main gate, a beautiful garden and some other magnificent buildings. The construction of the mausoleum dates back to the 1648. The surrounding gardens and other equally gorgeous architectural structures of the complex was completed in just five years. The tomb is built according to the strict canons of Islamic architecture and is similar to a mosque. Building stands on a square platform with truncated corners. The main dome of the mausoleum rises to a height of 74 meters and has around four smaller domes. A little further there were built four thin minarets. The towers were built with a slope back so that in the case of earthquake they would not fall on the mausoleum. All external and internal surfaces of the mausoleum are made of translucent polished marble (brought to the construction from 300 km distant quarry) and carved with Islamic ornaments with semi-precious stones: jasper, agate, turquoise, carnelian, malachite. In the center of the mausoleum, there are the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz, surrounded by marble fence. (In fact, the place of burial is below – directly below the tombs, underground.) The magnificent gate of the Taj Mahal are decorated with 22 domes, which represent the number of years spent on the construction of the tomb. A worthy addition to the Taj Mahal is a lush garden, which has a geometric layout. In the center of the garden there is a large pool, which divides the complex into four parts. Each of the segments is divided by several channels. Despite the fact that the white marble dome of the mausoleum is the most prominent component of the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum is a structurally integrated complex. The construction began in 1632 and was completed in 1653 by 20,000 artisans and craftsmen under guiding of the board of great architects including Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, Makramat Khan, and Deschenes Ana. According to another version, the main architect of Taj Mahal was Turk Isa Muhammad Effendi. The eNotes Blog Literary Love Quotes for YourValentine

Literary Love Quotes for YourValentine The media shows us two reactions to this little, commercial holiday: 1)  the lovey-dovey people feeding each other heart-shaped chocolates into their perfect, air-brushed mouths, and 2)  single, bitter people, doubling down on the BOGO chocolate at the local grocery store. Many of us, however, do not adhere to that binary system and enjoy reading love stories, bundling up with chocolate and/or a significant other, and taking the holiday as basically an ordinary day with cheap chocolate. By the way, there are some good deals on boxed chocolate when V-Day finally rolls around. In spirit of the holiday, enjoy the following collection of love-inspired quotes and the works from whence they came. Books dont have to fall under the taboo heading of romance to have a little of the good stuff, otherwise known as love. 1. Anna Karenina  by Leo Tolstoy Something of an untraditional love story, Anna Karenina follows a myriad of characters and their attempts, successful and not, to fall and stay in love.  Anyone familiar with this classic novel knows that while the love story between Kitty and Levin may not be intentionally drawn to the center stage, we as readers find ourselves drawn to the actual truth to their emotions rather than Annas less than committed feelings toward her husband. In fact, the union between Levin and Kitty serves as something of an  antithesis to the marriage between Anna and Alexi; while the latter married for status, the former married because they, you know, actually care for one another. Of course, the lovey aspect of the novel is not the sole purpose of the story, but it certainly makes up a large portion of it. 2. Persuasion  by Jane Austen Another classic tale of love filled with strife, unrequited (oh wait, yes! requited) feelings, confusion, and heartbreak- we read this stuff because we love it. After years of missing her beloved Captain Wentworth, Anne finds there may just be hope for their love after all. Honestly though, it wouldnt be much of a story if there wasnt even a chance.  Jane Austen was a pioneer for female authors and  opened the door for romance as a genre to be taken seriously. 3. Les Misà ©rables  by Victor Hugo Not all literary love must  fall under the umbrella of romance genre. Obviously, anyone with human contact and less than an all consuming dislike of all who share our evolutionary ancestors knows that. While of course Les Mis chronicles the touching love story of Cosette and Marius, one could (and many do) argue that the real love is between Cosette and her adoptive father figure (Jean Valjean, the totally dangerous convict/bread thief). Ever since he met her mother under *unfortunate circumstances* and took on the care of the girl, its clear that Valjean would do anything for little Cosette- including risk his life for Marius. Now, thats some father-daughter bonding. 4. Jane Eyre  by Charlotte Brontà « Another one of those stories where two people are in love, a misunderstanding rends them apart, and then theres the agony of the wondering whether or not theyll end up together and live happily ever after. This type of romance literature really made a moment for itself, didnt it? (See the above shoutout to Jane Austen). But if it isnt broken, dont fix it. To  Mr. Rochester, I will say that trying to marry someone (naming no names!) when youre wife is alive  (albeit crazy, but alive) and locked in a room upstairs, is considered an error of judgement regardless the time period. Or however much your *former* fiancee may love you. 5. Unaccustomed Earth  by Jhumpa Lahiri A cohesive collection of stories from a more modern era, Unaccustomed Earth follows the lives of of families who have emigrated from Bengali to the U.S. or the U.K. and how they adjust (or struggle to adjust) to their new way of life. These stories are a little less centered on love, but in that way might  be more relatable to us as the average reader. This quote in itself speaks to the reader- how many times have you seen a person for whom you have feelings, you make these little, arbitrary connections and, all of a sudden, youre soulmates! Maybe not exactly, but love makes us into silly critters and what better way to show that than to tell the tales of people trying to adjust to difficult circumstances and still being swept up in the tremulous tides of love? 6. Twenty-One Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda Pablo Neruda was what one might refer to as an unusual fellow. In addition to the great literary works, spanning from poetry to novels (for which he began amassing fame at the ripe old age of ten), that he produced, Neruda also served as a senator to the Chilean Communist Party. On a more personal note, Neruda was also a big believer in love, though he didnt have a lot of luck finding it until later in life; after two unsuccessful and potentially loveless marriages, Neruda finally met the love of his life,  Matilde Urrutia, who served as his muse for the remainder of his life and career.  The collection Twenty-One Love Poems and a Song of Despair was written as a dedication to the love he felt for his third and final wife. 7. The Fault in Our Stars  by John Green Famous already for its merit, The Fault in Our Stars was catapulted to further fame when the movie was released just a couple of years ago. While the film received some good reviews, the big screen never quite captures the mood of a novel quite as well as the written word can. Two teens, Augustus and Hazel, battle cancer and find themselves bonding over their mutual love ofbooks. *Wipes tears.* But seriously, this one is a bit of a tear-jerker. The more you fall in love with the story of these two falling in love in spite of their health and against the odds, the more you find yourself hoping that the inevitable isevitable. 8. Winnie the Pooh  by A.A. Milne If youve grown up anytime from the 1920s to the present youve at least heard the name Winnie the Pooh. Someone, somewhere out there has done a thorough plot and content analysis of the big yellow bear and his pals, but suffice it to say that if ever youre in need of a little pick-me-up, throw this on the telly  or YouTube- pretty much all these old cartoons can be found on YouTube these days. 9. Gone with the Wind  by Margaret Mitchell Gone With the Wind has been a classic both in novel form and on the big screen for decades. The novel (well, the movie too) follows the story of Scarlett, a spoiled southern belle, her love interest, Ashley, and Ashleys love interest, Melanie. Im sure you can see where this is going and youre probably right. Scarlett, being beautiful and accustomed to getting what she wants simply by existing is not happy to be overlooked for a girl she deigns inferior to herself, though we imagine Scarlett found most women inferior to herself. Regardless, Ashley seems to care little about Scarletts scorned feelings and the bitter woman relieves herself of her frustration by tormenting other men. Of course, this is a brief, and rather targeted synopsis, the novel itself is rich in a wealth of historical details, deep characters, and heartstring-pulling moments. Scarlett just happens to take center stage as far as Gone With the Winds love focus is concerned.

Victim's Movement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Victim's Movement - Essay Example Laws like Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) established the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the Victims’ Bill of Rights in 1990, Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 which includes the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the subsequent Constitutional Amendment in 1996, were passed by government and promoted. Universities also expanded and established victim-related courses with the U.S. Department of Justice sponsoring the first National Victim Assistance Academy in 1995 (Wallace and Roberson, 2010). Undeniably, the movement succeeded, but an increase in crime rate and severity of crimes today need more educated and trained professionals for support and intervention. One goal the movement should strive for in the next ten years is to develop a plan to maximize government and the universities’ support with regard to intervention. Next, establish permanent information exchange with universities, regarding the changing needs of victims, modus operandi of criminals based on victims’ stories, and other information which may help universities update and improve victim services curriculum, aimed at skills and competency improvement of students when they graduate and practice. Lastly, an organization composed of representatives from the US Attorney’s office, FBI, military and other federal agencies, university and leaders of the different organizations involved in victims assistance and intervention, doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists and other such profession als need to be established. The organization shall serve as a coordinating body dealing with data and information on changing needs of victims and modus operandi of criminals. From the data, the organization can come up with a standardized manual dealing on victim assistance and intervention. All the goals mentioned above will surely make a big difference in

The International Coordination by Israel During the Raid Case Study

The International Coordination by Israel During the Raid - Case Study Example While the counterterrorism approach used by Israel does not meet standard practice since it was a breach of the UN Charter, it is evident that Israel operated using different standards in comparison to other nations. In this case, it would be impermissible for other nations to take a similar approach to the one that Israel took, and such an approach could have attracted punitive measures although Israel appears immune. Indeed, African nations noted that the approach by Israel towards counterterrorism was against the expected practice although the country appeared to have embraced it as a policy, which put the security of nations at risk. In this regard, McDowell (1976) noted, â€Å"No country, and certainly no African country, can henceforth be secure against such acts, on which the Israeli government seems to wish to confer the status of State practice† (1228). In effect, this emphasizes that Israel’s counterterrorism approach was not standard practice although the US and the UN appeared to have sanctioned the raid. In conclusion, nations face challenges regarding the counterterrorism approaches they will use to rescue their citizens in instances that involved other nations. Case in point, Israel’s approach to raid Entebbe and rescue the hostages was an act in breach of the UN Charter although it gained support from other nations. Nonetheless, the raid involved international coordination with nations such as Kenya, which was subsequently bombed as a repercussion on the role it played. However, it is important to point out that Israel did not use standard practice during the Entebbe raid although the country appears to have perfected unconventional approaches in counterterrorism.

Seductive Powers of Women in the Medieval Era Essay Example for Free

Seductive Powers of Women in the Medieval Era Essay Women of the medieval genre employed sexual prowess to manipulate and gain control of their men. This was their only means of power in an otherwise powerless role as a female. Chaucer and de France portray in their poems the female’s struggle for power and dominance in relationships and the use of sexuality to achieve that goal. The Wife of Bath’s Prologue exploits a woman’s endeavor for power over men and the wicked measures she employs. The wife, the protagonist of The Wife of Bath’s Prologue, bragged of her successful manipulation resulting in having had five husbands. This power of persuasion, also noted in The Canterbury Tales General Prologue, â€Å"Of remedies of love she knew parchaunce, For she coude of that at the olde daunce,† which exclaims the wife’s familiarity with the art of love. (477, 478) The character of the wife used powerful seduction as the main means of manipulation, but she also beguiled them into guilt in order to get what she wanted from them. Ultimately, as depicted in by the wife’s own admission, â€Å"Namely abedde hadden they meschaunce, Ther wolde I chide and do hem no plesaunce†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (403,404), it was in the bedroom where she wielded her best feats, teasing them and refusing to bring them to sexual satisfaction until they promised to give into her plea for money- a cunning way in which she made her men submissive. Chaucer depicts the wife as a feminist character who is debauching in one sense, yet she contradicts that very essence by only having sex with her husbands when she wanted money from them. Ironically, she confesses to being the fondest of, and loving only her fifth husband, whom she could not control. The fifth husband, some 20 years younger, satirically reverses roles of the wife and her previous husbands by using the same manipulative schemes on her that she previously used on other men. Husband number five dominates the wife and alludes to her that he is aware of her wicked ways by reading to her from a book of stories of the most wicked, deceitful wives in history. Even though husband number five demonstrated more control over her than any of her previous husbands, she still managed to use her sexual talents to convince him to sign over his estate to her. Not only did Chaucer suggest the use of sexual temptations as tools for women used to obtain power in their domain, Marie de France also hinted to a similar use of sexuality in Lanval. de France’s Lanval depicts analogous use of beauty and sexuality by the queen as she seduced the protagonist, Lanval. Lanval was the object of a different seductress, one with the power of royalty. The queen used words of love along with her beauty and body to manipulate and seduce Lanval, evoking the pathos of love in him. Because of her position as queen, she demanded secrecy of her adulterous affair, which served as her means of control over Lanval. He had no choice but to agree to her demand of silence if he desired more favors from her. He eventually rejected her, which in turn infuriated her, therefore subjecting him to her bitter wrath as she sought to ruin him in an attempt to lessen the pain of rejection. In this poem the seductress doesn’t desire money, for she had all that she needed, but nonetheless she used her sexuality to obtain her desire, which is in this case was sex with Lanval. Sweet seduction manifested by soft-spoken, sweet words of love along with lust for the female body have lured men into the manipulative ways of women for centuries. Women have sought the dominance they so desired over their men with the only means of power they’ve had – and with much success. The works of Chaucer and deFrances illustrate the desire women have had for power throughout the ages.

Graduation Speech: Enjoy the Journey :: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Sitting in the backseat of the car, I used to bombard my family with these questions. On our summer road trips I was so anxious for the destination that I failed to appreciate the journey. However, as time passed and I grew older, I realized that it was the journey that was important and not the destination. For the past 13 years of our education we have been on a journey - a journey full of experiences, challenges and accomplishments. We have made it through elementary, middle and high school. It hasn't always been what we expected and certainly not easy, but as we progressed down the road, we stretched ourselves to reach across barriers and found ourselves in new and expanding roles. We were given the opportunity to explore our interests and discover what really excites us. We have become more independent and complete individuals. Our growth and self-discovery has placed us here tonight. Tonight we stand at a crossroad where each one of use will take a new direction in our life's journey. Walt Whitman said "Not I - not anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it for yourself." Where we end up isn't the most important decision, but instead it is the road we choose to take to get there. The road we take is what we will look back on and call our life. Life is a journey of everyday experiences, teaching us moment in, moment out, who we really are. It's important to remember these words "Happiness is to be found along the way, not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it is too late." And so we find ourselves ready and eager to move on. We take with us the strength and knowledge we've gained through our interactions, encounters, challenges and accomplishments at school and at home with parents, teachers and friends. Remember life is not a race but a journey to be enjoyed each step of the way. I leave you with these words from the mountain climber John Amatt: "Adventure isn't hanging on a rope off the sides of a mountain.

Family of Woodstock, Inc. Essay

The Family of Woodstock is more than a gate away for teens and young adults; it’s the exact opposite. As an interviewee for the upcoming position here at the organization, I would like to give you my full appreciation and knowledge or reasoning as to why I applied. When looking for which organization I should apply for after getting my degree in human service, I was leaning to helping those young people of our nation. After reading and learning what this organization has to offer for the young adolescents who are in need, as well as the young adult I felt that this is where I need to provide my skills. Here is a little bit of what amazed me and what I appreciated the most about this organization. Preparing an organization is hard, understanding the needs of others, and what they possess is more difficult unless one has a heart for it. The Family of Woodstock organization began when the founders found several factors that led them to create such an inspirational organization. From learning and understanding exactly why young teens and adults decide to escape from the confines of their world. Once the problem is recognized, there were reasons to plan an organization that would help provide such needs and materials. Some of the issues they go through such as sleeping in parking lots, hitchhiking, seeking out food, as well as clothing. This led the founders to provide materials and ensure that the rights to these materials. The organization specializes in meeting the needs of the communities around them who may be in need. Looking back through the history of Family of Woodstock, one can see the multiple areas where this organization has offered services for over forty years. Since 1970, there have been a twenty-four-hour hotline setup clients to call in and get immediate support. We can see the changes that have been going on within this organization. Helping those seek help with drug and substance abuse issues, as well as trying to seek funding from the county drug commission. Medical services start to become established, as well as the free store. The Family of Woodstock has offered services each year to the main issues that are an ongoing struggle faced by the individuals in the communities close to them. The main issues they help with are emergency housing, domestic violence victims, helping teen runaways, and the homeless. There are walk-in facilities that the Family of Woodstock does  meet the immediate needs of Ulster County. When Family of Woodstock began their beliefs and values started with helping the young people who were coming to the little town of Woodstock. However, many people did not feel that it was their problem or necessity to help those because they believed it was not Woodstock’s responsibility. Nevertheless, as more and more volunteers started helping, Family of Woodstock started to come together. The volunteers are what made Family of Woodstock as successful as they are today. The main volunteer group was called the Soft Landing Machine, which helped those who were substance abusers. They spent time with those who were drug users, as well as talk with them and visit. As of today, the volunteers and employees are what make Family of Woodstock, along with the diverse backgrounds, experience, and interests, but one thing they share are common values. The Family of Woodstock has branched into different directions but has primarily stayed on the same path it was founded on. That path is helping and providing those in need with the easiest ways to get the proper assistance needed to solve their problems without doing it for them. Families of Woodstock’s doors are always open to anyone who is in need without being judged. The organization has opportunities for staffers and volunteers who are trained to help troubled individuals feel welcomed and feel comfortable. The way Family of Woodstock has developed over the last forty years comes down to them working harder than ever by providing the services that are needed without too much change. Helping others within their community and see the difference that they are making and the opportunities for others to join the Family, so they can help support others as well. All human services organizations go through some changes, but as they go through these changes, the organizations will see what works better for them as times and society have change. As long as they keep going with their founding motto and the straight path of helping those in need there is nothing wrong with a little change to improve services. Human services professionals share a common goals and values when wanting to help improve one’s life, rather than the economic well-being of an individual and the families that they serve. While most human services programs serve different clients and offer different services, most clients have many issues and needs that require them to seek out several different services. However, as human services develop programs to help service the clients, we must  remember that there should be several other services looked at for their treatments. When specializing in human services delivery we need to be aware of what major issues are causing the suffering in today’s society and what are the minor issues. This goes to say that specialization of any human service delivers has become a trend throughout the profession. The reason is because as professionals they understand what issues families and individuals go through because of their experiences or knowledge. In conclusion, Family of Woodstock has helped many human services organizations become specialized in helping. With the knowledge and understanding, as well as the importance of helping others, Family of Woodstock has become an organization that has lasted for over forty years based on what is important to them. Their values have not changed over the years, but they have expanded their knowledge of how to help those who are in need. The Family of Woodstock has continued to grow and evolve so they can reach as many of those who are suffering alone. References Burger, W. R. (2011). Human services in contemporary America (8th ed.). My Reading And Writing Skills - 1484 Words

I was terrified walking into my third attempt at Engl 1010 this semester. I attempted and failed this class twice already so I was worried about what was to come, more failing grades, more difficult papers to write, and more confusion. I wrote about this concern in my Literacy Narrative assignment. I realized for the first time my easy high school years had hurt me academically, and that as a college freshman, my reading and writing skills were at an eighth grade level. I tried, but was unable to keep up with the other students. I was a homeschooled, seventeen year old, lost in this world of learning, surrounded mainly by students who came from private schools all over the country. (Literacy Narrative 7?) This English course has taught me so much about myself, my writing abilities, and that I can overcome obstacle s and excel.
